Bill Hickok
(Gone Under)
Bill is no longer with us, he was an
inspiration to all who knew him
Bill (William) Charles Hickok

Will (Scavenging Crow) Littke sent me this in order that others may know and
love Bill as he did. The following is what he sent:
I read this to the gathered people at the funeral since I felt at the time
that I could not do Bill Justice and make a closing statement about a man I
felt deeply about.

To Friends and Family of Bill Hickok:
I first meet Bill Hickok in 1994 as I became interested in muzzleloading and
joined the Bear Creek Muzzleloader Club. He struck me as the most
knowledgeable shooter and all around muzzleloader I have ever met. I
struck up a friendship with him that will last me all my life.
Shortly afterwards we attended the Enumclaw Mountain Man Show and he
persuaded me to build a Southern Mountain Rifle (50cal flintlock). I
spent nearly 2 years learning his gunsmithing craft building that rifle.
Over the next four years I was to learn even more, yet his untimely passing
prevent many more years of learning-he had so much more to teach and I to
learn!
I was especially impressed with is knowledge of American History. As a
university professor I have meet Noble Prize Winners and various other
scientific scholars, but Bill was truly a man beyond his letters. I
think this came from a desire to learn as much as he could from history and
the lessons it has to teach.
Well, I got to rondy with Bill for several years. He showed me and my
brother John and many others the true spirit of the term "patriot" and
"mountain man". It is up to us to carry on this historical legacy to
the next generation and to keep his spirit alive. Even though "Fairly
Honest" Bill is gone his spirit is "on the smoke" and around the campfire
and on the trail walk. Surely we will meet in the hereafter and walk
the same trail again after solving the great Mystery.
Sincerely Yours
